A First Post - Take Two.

Ok, so out with the old blog, in with a new one. This one will be more for me this time, to keep me focused, occupy me post-workout, instead of just lying around eating when I get back from the gym. It won't be interesting or fun or have any pretty pictures :(

So the aim of the game for 2012 is to do a triathlon. I'm not too unfit as it is, but I can't for the life of me swim. Every year I tell myself I'll learn how to swim. I came as close to have put my name down for lessons in citywest one time, but one thing led to another and I just never went. I've been in a swimming pool maybe once in the last two or three years. It's not that I don't like it, I love the water, particularly the water in the jacuzzi or steam room or the gym, but in the pool as well. I think my main problems are:

  1. It's SOOOOOOO much effort packing a huge bag with shampoo, conditioner, towel etc. with me to the gym. 
  2. eeekkkk, me in a swimsuit.
  3. I feel like an absolute dipshit when I attempt to swim. 
  4. I can't swim.
So, basically, I'd get in the pool, get a lane, get embarrassed for hogging a lane, leave the lane, splash about on my own for a bit, get embarrassed again, leave pool, spend the rest of the time in the spa area. 

No going back now. I'll need to be able to swim at least 750m for even the shortest of triathlons. That's ~40 lengths of my pool. Last time I tried, I struggled to swim 2. Major problem.

So by giving myself the target of a triathlon I will definitely make myself get in the pool more often. Seeings how, at the moment, I don't really know my strength at swimming or how long it will take me to get up to speed, I know I can kind of run, and kind of cycle, I'm not really aiming to do a Tri until August sometime, either the Focus Ireland Challenge or the Dublin City Triathlon. Either one really. Maybe even both. So in that respect, I really don't need to start training for either of them until May-ish, after my final exams anyway.

But I do need to need to get fit and lose weight, so until May, this blog will be like my fitness/weight-loss diary. I'm aiming to update it EVERY SINGLE DAY :O or at least every week. So this is day 0. Tomorrow will be a proper entry. It'll basically list all the crap I eat, like today, I had microwave popcorn and a muthafuckin kitkat, for my lunch no less, and all the manly workouts I do. I'll start a weight tracker too. Tomorrow is boxfit,  cannot wait to punch things.
